[GUIDE] [OnePlus 6] How to downgrade from Android Pie 9.0 to Android Oreo 8.1

OnePlus recently pushed an update for Android Pie. If for some reason, you are not satisfied with the update then here is how you can downgrade to Android 8.1 (Oreo).

Before proceeding make sure to back up all your important data as this process will wipe all data on your phone.

Step 1:
First, you need to download the OnePlus 6 downgrade-able ROM file. You can download it from here where it says Instructions for downgrading. I will provide the link in the video description. You can download it directly on your phone and make sure the ROM zip file is in the root directory.

Step 2:
Now, go to settings > system updates > click the cog icon on the top right > select local upgrade > now click the rom zip file, enter pin and the phone will start installing the rom file which will take some time.

Step 3:
Once the installation is completed, You will be asked to reboot. If you do not want to root your phone then you can go ahead and click reboot but if you want root then do not reboot at this moment. Now go back and open Magisk manager app. Click install > Install > install to inactive slot. Click “Yes” to confirm and flash Magisk. Once Magisk is installed, reboot the phone.

Your phone will reboot couple of times so do not worry. Boot will also take a little longer time than usual as this the first boot. Once the phone is booted, you will have to go through the entire setup process.

You can see that my phone is now running Android 8.1 Oreo. Magisk should also be installed. You will have to install Magisk Manager so do that. Once it is installed, Magisk should work fine. If you see safetynet error then make sure you have updated all the apps. Once done, test again and safety net should pass.

Now you can go ahead and restore all your data. You can checkout the latest OnePlus 6 news, opinions, development news and phone specifications here.
